Amazon Referral Fee Formula

Amazon charges a referral fee on every sale, calculated as a percentage of the total sales price (item price plus any shipping or gift wrap charges you collect). The percentage depends on the product category — most categories are 15%, but several have lower or tiered rates. Every order has a minimum referral fee of $0.30, even if the percentage calculation produces a smaller amount.

Fee Base = Item Price + Shipping Charge
Referral Fee = max(Fee Base × Category Rate %, $0.30)
Effective Rate % = (Referral Fee ÷ Fee Base) × 100
Net Proceeds = Fee Base − Referral Fee

Several categories use tiered rates: Electronics Accessories charge 15% on the portion up to $100 and 8% above that; Jewelry charges 20% up to $250 and 5% above; Watches charge 16% up to $1,500 and 3% above. Clothing & Accessories charge 5% under $20 and 17% at $20 and above. Beauty, Health & Personal Care, and Grocery charge 8% under $15 and 15% at $15 and above.
