Mathematical Audit

Pet Sitting & Dog Walking Take-Home Pay Formula

Rover and Wag both pay sitters and walkers a share of the price a client pays, after deducting a service fee. Rover keeps 20% of the booking price (sitters keep 80%), while Wag keeps roughly 40% of the booking price (walkers keep about 60%). Tips are typically not subject to these commissions, so they are added back in full.

Gross Weekly Earnings = Price per Booking × Bookings per Week
Platform Fee = Gross Weekly Earnings × Platform Fee Rate (Rover 20%, Wag ~40%, Independent 0%)
Net Weekly Earnings = (Gross Weekly Earnings − Platform Fee) + Weekly Tips
Net Monthly Earnings = Net Weekly Earnings × 4.33
Net Annual Earnings = Net Weekly Earnings × 52
Effective Take-Home Rate % = (Net Weekly Earnings ÷ (Gross Weekly Earnings + Tips)) × 100

Rover charges sitters a 20% service fee on the booking subtotal (separate from the ~11% fee paid by pet owners) and does not take a cut of tips. Wag takes a much larger cut — providers typically keep around 60% of the booking price. Independent/direct clients (found outside an app) keep 100% of the booking price.
