Dropshipping Profit Formula

Dropshipping profit per order is what remains of your selling price after subtracting your supplier's product cost, the shipping cost (if not included by the supplier), payment processing fees, and your average advertising cost per sale. Ad cost per sale is typically derived from your campaign's cost-per-acquisition or by dividing total ad spend by total sales in a given period.

Payment Processing Fee = Selling Price × Payment Processing %
Total Cost per Sale = Supplier Cost + Shipping Cost + Payment Processing Fee + Ad Cost per Sale
Net Profit per Sale = Selling Price − Total Cost per Sale
Profit Margin % = (Net Profit per Sale ÷ Selling Price) × 100
Monthly Net Profit = Net Profit per Sale × Monthly Sales Volume
Monthly Revenue = Selling Price × Monthly Sales Volume

Ad cost per sale should reflect your actual blended cost-per-acquisition across all ad platforms (e.g., total monthly ad spend divided by total monthly sales), not just the bid amount for a single ad. Payment processing typically runs 2.5-3.5% depending on your payment gateway and country.

Operational Guide

How to Use the Dropshipping Profit Calculator

1

Enter your selling price

This is the retail price you charge customers for the product in your store.

2

Enter your supplier cost and shipping cost

Supplier cost is what you pay your dropshipping supplier (e.g., AliExpress, CJ Dropshipping) per unit. Shipping cost is what they charge to ship it to your customer, if not already included.

3

Enter your payment processing rate

This is the percentage your payment gateway (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe) charges per transaction, typically around 2.9%.

4

Enter your average ad cost per sale

Divide your total monthly ad spend by your total monthly sales to get a realistic blended figure, rather than estimating a single ad's cost.

5

Enter your monthly sales volume

This is used to project your total monthly net profit and revenue at this price point and cost structure.
