Shopify Transaction Fee Formula

Shopify charges a credit card processing rate plus a flat $0.30 fee on every order paid through Shopify Payments. The percentage rate depends on your plan: Basic (2.9% + 30¢), Shopify (2.6% + 30¢), and Advanced (2.4% + 30¢) for online card payments. If you use a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds an extra transaction fee (2.0% on Basic, 1.0% on Shopify, 0.6% on Advanced) on top of whatever your gateway charges.

Order Total = Selling Price + Shipping Charged
Payment Processing Fee = Order Total × Card Rate % + $0.30
Third-Party Fee = Shopify Payments? $0 : Order Total × Third-Party Rate %
Total Fees per Order = Payment Processing Fee + Third-Party Fee
Net Profit per Order = Order Total − Product Cost − Shipping Cost − Total Fees per Order
Monthly Net Profit = (Net Profit per Order × Monthly Orders) − Monthly Subscription Fee

This calculator models Shopify Payments online credit card rates for US-based stores. Shopify also offers Shopify Starter and Plus plans with different rate structures, and in-person POS rates differ from online rates.

Operational Guide

How to Use the Shopify Fee Calculator

1

Enter your selling price and shipping charged to the customer

These combine to form the order total that Shopify's fees are calculated against.

2

Enter your product cost and your actual shipping cost

Product cost is what you pay for the item; shipping cost is what it actually costs you to ship it (these may differ from what you charge the customer).

3

Select your Shopify plan

Basic ($39/mo), Shopify ($105/mo), or Advanced ($399/mo) — each plan has a different card processing rate.

4

Indicate whether you use Shopify Payments

If you use a third-party gateway like PayPal instead, Shopify adds an extra transaction fee on top.

5

Enter your average monthly order volume

This is used to project your total monthly net profit after the plan's subscription cost.

6

Click Calculate

View your per-order fee breakdown, net profit, profit margin, and monthly profit projection.
